According to the HIMSS Analytics report, over the next two years about 35% of American healthcare providers plan to integrate artificial intelligence, and in five years similar technologies will be implemented in 50% of US hospitals.
Researchers interviewed 85 healthcare executives and IT professionals working in these institutions.
It turned out that today advanced AI solutions are used in 4.7% of hospitals. 10.6% intend to introduce it this year, 23.5% will be using artificial intelligence by 2019, and 24.7% intend to do it within five years.
Specialists of the healthcare industry believe that AI developments will be most useful for public health, diagnosis, producing new drugs and improving the quality of health services. Besides, artificial intelligence will help optimize work processes in hospitals, improve safety and control financial flows.
According to many respondents, the introduction of artificial intelligence is hampered by the perception that AI technologies are nascent. Therefore, it is difficult to assess all the opportunities they may offer to the health industry.
Also, analysts note that developers of solutions for health will try to introduce artificial intelligence technologies into all new products, even if they had no similar experience.
